Social Media is a great way to digitally connect and interact with your target market on daily basis, which gives you the opportunity to create a loyal community for your brand. What started out as a mere entertainment source has eventually evolved and take turn to be one of the most powerful marketing channels for businesses.

There’s no denying the fact that Social Media is part of our everyday life, as consumers, marketers, and social beings.

Research conducted recently shows that there are 3.5 billion users worldwide on social media, are you still not convinced about the power of social media? Wondering what the benefit is for your small business? Its actually a great plus to your business if you can take advantage of these online platforms to grow your brand.

Below we'll be looking at some of the ways you can start using social media to expand and grow your business.

1. Create Brand Recognition: For any business either small or big, raising awareness is a top priority. This is typically the case because we know that people prefer to purchase from brands they recognize and have patronized over time and offers good quality. That's where social media comes in. When compared to traditional media, social media can put your brand in front of your target audience faster and easier. It also gets your target audience to think about your company, even when they're not.

Make sure to invest your time into creating and posting relevant content, cover images, and profile photos on social platforms. Place your logo strategically so that it leaves a long-lasting impression in the mind of your prospective customers. Place your business logo in a place that will not either be distracting or overwhelming to your audience. Also, don’t forget to focus on the visual elements of your brand. For instance, when you look at the Twitter profile page of any recognizable brand, you'll notice it’s clean and crisp. The images are simple and have a great content embedded in it. So you can also do the same for your business.

A while ago, I was having a conversation with a friend of mine, he shared a story of how he got a new customer without having to directly message the person on his business. He said that beautiful morning, he just got a message from a new number saying: “I’ve noticed you on Facebook for a while now because you do post some information relating to this business of yours, am actually in need of a service in your line of work, and your name came to mind, so I checked your profile to get your number”. This alone shows the number of potential clients you are missing if you don’t utilize the social media to thrive in your Business.

2. Establish Your Brand as a Topical Authority: Social media platforms can help you establish your small business as a topical authority. Meaning, in your niche, your brand becomes a trusted source of information. But how can you establish topical authority on social media?

You need to post content relevant to your niche (Business line) regularly to create awareness.  Search engines will then start to recognize your content as relevant in that niche. This helps your business or brand to become the go-to authority for any topic.

This could be a photo gallery section or flyer display of your products on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Twitter etc. where people can view your catalogs, check what fits what they are looking for or suit their needs, and from there they inbox you and boom, there you have it, a new customer.

If your page has a high authority, it will also generate high-quality patronage. A practical example is by searching on google for something, the website or profile that you see are the ones who share great content in that niche and people usually find solution when they visit such link. If you're searching for content as sources for your writing, you can use tools to find a reliable source.

3Maximize Conversations: For any business, in order to thrive, you have to engage your customers. This is a major area that is very crucial to your business. Someone somewhere is always stuck up with a particular thing. Knowledge they say is power. You have the knowledge, someone needs your services because of your knowledge and expertise you’ve developed over time in that area, that’s indeed is the definition of service rendering, all you need is to engage them in a nice and professional conversation and discuss on the prospect.

There are instances where people need your services, but they don’t know it yet, you can just study them, look at ways in which your services can solve their problem, engage them in a nice conversation, that could get you a new customer as easy as it sounds, ironically not so easy, because you need to be very convincing for that to happen.

It may also be a conversation on your products as well, convince them and show to them you offer the most quality products that could cater for there needs.

4. Organize Contest, Giveaways, or Offer Discounts: this is a great and one of the best market strategy. Who doesn’t like discounts on products or services and giveaways? Regardless of the type of business, this method is super cost-effective and an impactful way to generate sales. It can also help to promote your products. Organizing contests or giveaways can also be fun and entertaining. They help increase your engagement rate as potential customers will start engaging with your brand more in the hopes of winning something. This can increase the awareness of your service or product as customers excitedly share news about the discounts with their friends.
